More Snow, Booze, and Pork

The region is still recovering today from last night's storm, which covered the Bekka Valley with snow. I took this photo looking back towards Syria, stuck on the road home to Beirut. Instead of waiting around for snowplows, I recalled the old proverb: when life gives you lemons, get thee to a winery.

The Bekka valley has produced wine for centuries. Ksara, the oldest winery in Lebanon, has caves dating back to Roman times. The salami is of more recent vintage.
